Some may have never experienced the feeling of anticipation knowing the exact day your favorite band’s new album would go on sale.  The lines outside stores at midnight providing both anxiety and extasy simultaneously as you bonded with a family made of strangers who instead of blood, shared your love of music waiting for that album to go on sale.  If you miss those days, or wish to experience the phenomenon your parents spin yarns about then Record Day Store is for you.  April 13th marks Record Store Day this year.

Initiated back in 2007, this celebration of music and the record store counter culture was organized by owners and employees as a way to share unique offerings to the public.  Since then it has become an annual event all across America with participating independent stores reaching over 1,400 and thousands more internationally.  With the reemergence of vinyl records across the world, independent record store owners have found a way to take center stage among the streaming services and internet giants.

This year, Pearl Jam have been selected as the ambassadors of the holiday.  The 1990’s legends will be commemorating a vinyl release of their legendary Live At Easy Street CD.  One special piece collectors might be looking for this year is a special picture disc release of Bohemian Rhapsody: The Original Soundtrack which is due to be released.

Independent record stores across the globe will celebrate the day with special live in store events, live performances, giveaways, special reissues, unique pressings and even limited-edition releases.  For the music fanatics or if you are teetering on the idea of starting a collection there is no better opportunity than Record Store Day.
