After the 2018 Warrants were Cancelled
Ajay Gupta had arrest warrants, in connection with corruption charges, issued against him in February 2018, but the South African Authorities subsequently cancelled them. The matter of alleged bribery by Ajay Gupta in respect of Mr Jonas in an attempt to persuade him to take up the post of Finance Minister also implicated Duduzane Zuma, the son of the then President Jacob Zuma.
The corruption charges against Duduzane Zuma were dropped so consequently the warrants held for Ajay Gupta were also withdrawn, this only after the HAWKS discovered that Ajay Gupta had fled the country.

Who are the HAWKS
The HAWKS are an investigative unit of the South African police force. They fall under the control of the Minister of Police, their predecessor the Scorpions were unit independent of the police, but were disbanded shortly, in 2009, after this elite unit was founded. Many feel being under the control of the Minister for police compromises their independence. Their stats seems to confirm this. There has been an 83% decline in convictions and a 60% reduction in arrests since they were formed in comparison to their predecessors.New Arrests Warrants Issued.

These warrants have to be ratified by The National Prosecuting Authority so that the arrest can go ahead. The three brothers Ajay, Atul and the younger brother Rajesh are suspected of being the Guptas named of the warrants but at the present time the Hawks are holding the contents of the warrants close to their chests. Their spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi has declined to comment about the names on the warrants.
The Public Prosecutors, Thuli Madonsela, interim report on “State Capture,” seems to be sufficiently damming, to have been the catalyst for the warrants being issued.
So Where are The Guptas?
It is believed that the Gupta Family has fled to the United Arab Emirates and are living in some luxury in Dubai. A property in the area known the “Beverley Hills “ which is considered to be the most expensive area of Dubai came on the Market for R 448 million or $32 million. The gates are now adorned with the words”Gupta” and “Saharanpur.” The glitzy gold crested signs above this, their new residence, do not seem to signify any form of attempt to hide their whereabouts or wealth, to the world.

The people of South Africa wait with bated breath to see what happens next. Will the Guptas long awaited extradition to return them to South Africa to stand trial, go ahead?
