For the past few months, Bobi Wine’s name has been all over the newsrooms and social media. After his struggle to try to get out of jail, the court finally granted him release on a cash bail together with other 11 accused colleagues.
The Ugandan Justice Stephen Mubiru also gave bail to Jinja East MP Paul Mwiru, Arua Municipality MP-elect Kassiano Wadri, Ntungamo Municipality Mp Gerald Karuhanga together with a host of other political issues.
Some standby ambulances were outside the courtroom to transport the suspects to a healthcare facility. It is said that the suspects were severely tortured during their detention. The legislator Kassiano Wadri has not been cleared by the court, so he is not allowed to set his foot to Arua Municipality. There were a dozen people outside the court who were celebrating their release.
Bobi Wine will be taken to the Royal London Hospital for treatment after the intense torture in jail.
“We are in touch with a doctor Martin Griffin of London Royal Hospital who is supposed to receive both Zaake and Kyangulanyi( Bobi Wine).” Mar Mao said to the reporters after the release of the MPs on bail. He also added that MPs were entitled to get treatment on public expense, but it would need the authority of the medical board to meet.
The Daily Monitor journal pointed out that Mr. Zake was likely to suffer from an irreversible disability. He quoted the director of Lubanga Hospital who cautioned a confidential medical report given to the patient’s family and parliament authorities.
“He has severe tenderness along his backbone from the neck downwards. It is consistent with an injury in his spinal cord and will need further evaluation by a neurologist,” Dr. Andrew Ssekitoleko wrote to the speaker
