On September 5th, Didi issued a statement stating that the night service will be suspended from 23:00-05:00 daily from September 8th to 15th. In addition, in the new version of the APP, a “one-click alarm” and “emergency contact” driver safety training program has been added to improve the safety factor. Judging from the few vicious incidents that have occurred, Didi has serious loopholes in regulation. For consumers, there are many hidden dangers in the mixed drivers.
Didi is a peer-to-peer ridesharing, taxi cab, and transportation network company headquartered in Beijing, China. On August 1, 2016, Didi acquired the entire assets of Uber China’s brand, business and data in mainland China. Didi is currently valued at US$60 billion and has a market share of over 90% in China.
Although Didi is in a period of rapid development, it ignores user safety issues. Four months ago, in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, a flight attendant was raped and killed by a Didi driver. After the incident broke out, it attracted the attention of the whole people. After that, Didi apologized, compensated, and rectified the “carpooling” service, and went online again after one week. Facts have proved that the rectification obviously did not cure the security risks of the “carpooling” business. On August 24th, a girl in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, used the “Carpooling” service and was raped and killed by a Didi driver.
After two consecutive vicious cases in half a year, Didi will re-evaluate the “carpooling” business model and go offline indefinitely until the security protection measures are approved by the users.
At present, the Ministry of Communications and other 10 Chinese departments have been stationed in Didi Company for safety special inspection. Didi Company said that they will actively and conscientiously cooperate with the inspection team to thoroughly rectify the problems found in the inspection, promote the compliance process as soon as possible, effectively strengthen the safety capacity of customer service, and comprehensively improve the level of travel safety.
