If something is certain, it is that during the government of former president of Venezuela Hugo Chavez and current Nicolás Maduro, who are from the same party, little has been done in terms of security, this is a problem that has been neglected for almost 20 years and that has generated that all kinds of mafias and criminal gangs that beyond breaking the law cause real terror in the habitants of the country.
As in many countries, in Venezuela, being a criminal is part of something that could be identified as a lifestyle, but here it has been scaled to the point of becoming a whole work and organization, where in some cases it has been demonstrated how these criminals have more power than the authorities themselves.
An example of this are the prisons of this country, these serve as headquarters for criminals, they are those who run drug trafficking networks, kidnappings, vehicle theft and even common assaults, these are the so-called “Pranes”, which have been earned his position as total bosses in the wake of killing and surviving other criminals who also want the same position.
It is not surprising that this, being the sixth most dangerous country in the world, have high fatal figures. However, it must be borne in mind that this is not a country that is under a war conflict, but that is hit by a culture of crime promoted by the last governments, where for many there is an indirect curfew, because after 10 pm most businesses close and nobody goes out into the streets, being in some places even earlier.
This is an aspect of the crisis that has been overshadowed by other problems such as food or the economy, however it is a latent problem that will remain and will be quite difficult to remedy.
