Brisbane’s Coronation Drive and other parts of the suburb of Auchenflower were in lockdown today. Two men, wanted over property offenses, barricaded themselves inside an apartment unit. The incident began at around 11 am QLD time this morning when Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) officers were shot at as they entered a number of property offenses. Queensland police finished just before 5 pm QLD time after the two men aged 33 and 29 barricaded themselves inside the unit and stayed there for almost 6 hours.
Residents “very scared” as siege took place
According to Tony Ridge of Queensland Police, they did not have to evacuate any residents from the building and there have been no casualties. Only one shot was fired and nobody was injured. Bystander Matthew Perry told reporters that their units and looked “very scared.” “Must have happened just moments before we pulled in, they had the place surrounded with men about 50 meters in each direction,” he said.
The lockdowns caused significant traffic congestion. “I am aware of this situation as a congestion in the surrounding streets,” said Inspector Ridge.
