Former Vice President Moody Awori who worked with retired president Mwai Kibaki has been behind bars for a long time. But recently, President Uhuru shocked masses of Kenyans when he announced him as part of the Sports, Art and Social Development Fund board. Awori would work with Jack Tuwei who is the chairperson of the Kenyan Athletes.
How did Kenyans react?
It seems that this appointment left many Kenyans in shock having the fact that he just turned 91 years old. They expected a young leader, bearing in mind that Kenya has many unemployed and qualified youths. Below are some comments from Twitter regarding this issue.
“Awori now being given a state job when we have energetic young lads that can do the job..91 years for God’s sake… Then you’ll hear some idiot somewhere saying that the government is empowering the youths,” Said @kubasu on a Twitter post.
‘No hate to uncle moody Awori but at that age? Is there no one else I mean a 91-year-old man should be retired, enjoying his pensions,” Said @Sam Lulli
Uhuru defends this appointment
When president Uhuru learned about the complaints from the public, he tried to defend his choice. Speaking at the KCB Foundation of 2jiajiri Youth Empowerment Program, Kenyatta attempted to explain the reason for his decision.
To him, it was better to have an experienced politician so that he could safeguard the money. A young person would loot the money.
