I am the first one to say that exercise was never really my thing.
So, when I say that I absolutely love doing my at home
yoga routine every day, this must be something amazing.
Yoga has become a trending topic on social media and on tv.
However, it is so much more than being able to do a fancy split while in a handstand.
Yoga is about becoming in tune with the big three; mind, body, and spirit.
When our mind, body, and spirit are out of alignment
we feel it in every aspect of our lives. This is where the stuck,
sad, anxious, and lost feelings come from.
When we arrive on the yoga mat,
we do not leave those feelings out, we work through them.
By flowing into each pose, focusing on breath,
and even sometimes repeating mantras,
we can become grounded again.
We learn to start appreciating how our body is feeling as a whole and
what it is trying to tell us.
We spend a lot of our time surfing social media and looking
into everyone else’s lives that we forget to check in with ourselves.
Taking 20-40 minutes each day practicing Yoga helps us get back into checking in.
There are several types of Yoga that we will be going over in the next few weeks,
however let’s focus on the global limbs first;
- Yamas (ethics)
- Niyama (Virtuous Behaviors)
- Asana (Postures)
- Pranayama (Breath)
- Pratyahara (Concentration)
- Dhahran (Concentration)
- Dhyana (reflection)
- Samadhi (union)
As you can see, the actual pose is just ONE aspect of this amazing practice.
Being able to take the above elements and use them on
and off the matt is what Yoga is all about. So, what do you say?
I think it’s time to try out a little Yoga! If you are uncomfortable
going to a class at first, try an at home routine.
There are plenty of videos on YouTube and apps
on the Appstore that you can start with.
Until Next Week,
